My son is trying to contact a game server, the IP is 85.133.16.62 on
port 2234. We have tried pinging it, but even with the firewall turned
off, it doesn't work.

Other users can reach it OK. Is this something to do with NTL's system?

What protocol?

Some places ignore ICMP packets. They don't though. I've just pinged it.

Launch the command line. Fire up the game then try a 'netstat' which will
give you a clue (possibly).

Possibly. Possibly not. Is there an url for the game server website?

That port isn't active (atm)...

$ nmap -sT -p 2234 -PI -PP -PM -PT2234 -PS2234 -PU2234 85.133.16.62
Starting nmap 3.75 ( http://www.insecure.org/nmap/ ) at 2005-04-07 23:11 BST
Interesting ports on gwrbc2b02.rxtxtech.net (85.133.16.62):
PORT STATE SERVICE
2234/tcp closed unknown
Nmap run completed -- 1 IP address (1 host up) scanned in 1.166 seconds

...there's a *lot* of other ports that are talking so would seem reasonable
to assume cockpit errors on son's part? If completely stuck I can post a
complete scan.
